"Oh, say can you see..."

On Sunday afternoon Aug. 26 I will be singing the National Anthem for the Bridgeport Bluefish. I have done this every summer for the past six. Friends from church buy a block of tickets, cheer me on, then we kibitz and watch the game. It's a wonderful park, a good seat anywhere you sit, with lots of families. I made this recording so I could send an audition CD to the Boston Red Sox, but no word yet. Someday...

Though it's a war-based anthem, with a strong sense of religiousity about our flag, it's still a thrill to sing it in front of a large crowd. Thanks for listening.

Wow! What a voice you have! Do you chant the service often? And, your voice isn't anything like I had imagined. I hear a more Southern accent - guess we all imagine others to sound as if they are from our part of the country. But, then I'm gone two weeks to another part of the country and I don't sound like me anymore.

Hope you get to sing for the Red Sox.

Thanks, Share Cropper. Hardly anyone chants the service in the UCC, but I wish they would so I could hear how it's done. If I'm preaching I sing the benediction.

I added a kind of gospel feel to the anthem--my own fingerprint. And sometimes I too hear a little twang in my voice, even though the closest I got to living in the south was Ohio. I guess it's just in my blood.

Lovely, Cynthia. I hear a touch of the South in your voice, too. Perhaps you're singing right about now. Good on you for adding the Gospel feel.

God bless you.

Thanks, Mimi. With the hour's difference, it was probably about right.

God bless you, too.
